Search suspended for missing boater in Edmonds

The search has been suspended for an Edmonds man missing and presumed drowned in the Columbia River after he fell from a boat Saturday afternoon near Chelan.

Steve Frausto, 24, a graduate of Kamiak High School in Mukilteo, was boating with friends from the Stevens Pass ski team when he apparently fell off the boat south of Beebe Bridge.

According to Douglas County Undersheriff Don Culp, Frausto was boating with 10 friends when he disappeared.

Culp said Frausto had been drinking and wasn't feeling well, so he went to sleep in the back.

Frausto later moved to the front of the boat and apparently fell off with no one noticing, Culp said.

When friends realized he was missing, they searched before calling police.

Frausto was not wearing a life jacket, Culp said.
