Anti-bag-fee campaign gets another $300,000 boost
The American Chemistry Council has given another $300,000 to fight an effort to charge Seattle shoppers 20 cents for each disposable paper or plastic bag
The American Chemistry Council has given another $300,000 to fight an effort to charge Seattle shoppers 20 cents for each disposable paper or plastic bag.
That brings the group's total contributions to the anti-bag fee campaign to over $1 million.
The contribution reported Wednesday comes days after the council, which represents the plastic industry, gave an additional $500,000 to the Coalition to Stop The Bag Tax.
The Seattle City Council passed an ordinance last year requiring supermarkets, drugstores and convenience stores to charge a 20-cent bag fee, but the opposition group collected enough signatures to put the question before voters Aug. 18.
The pro-bag fee group, the Seattle Green Bag campaign, has so far raised about $64,000.
