Police say one woman is dead and another critically wounded after a man entered their house in Seattle's South Park neighborhood and stabbed them.
Police Officer Renee S. Witt said the stabbing occurred in the 700 block of South Rose Street shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday.
A 37-year-old woman died and a 40-year-old woman was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where she was in critical condition this afternoon.
The man entered the women's home as they slept, possibly through an open or unlocked window in the back, Witt said.
The surviving victim was stabbed multiple times in her arm and neck but managed to escape and get help from neighbors, Witt said. The women did not know the man, and he fled in an unknown direction, she said.
The man was described as being in his late 20s or early 30s and about 6 feet tall, with a thin muscular build, medium-black complexion and thin mustache.
Witt said investigators are distributing a flyer seeking additional information in South Park. Police have scheduled a public meeting for 7 p.m. Monday at the South Park Community Center. They also hope to get more information from the surviving victim.
"Our detectives are waiting for her condition to stabilize a bit more before they try to talk to her," Witt said.
