Eyman's property tax initiative will be on ballot
Initiative promoter Tim Eyman's latest smaller-government project will be on the statewide ballot this fall.
OLYMPIA — Initiative promoter Tim Eyman's latest smaller-government project will be on the statewide ballot this fall.
State elections officials say their check of petitions shows that Initiative 1033 has enough valid voter signatures to head to the polls.
I-1033 would cap the amount of money flowing into state, county and city general funds. Yearly increases would be tied to inflation plus population growth.
Revenue over the cap would be used to lower property taxes. Voter-approved taxes and the state's Rainy Day Fund would not be subject to the cap.
It will be the only citizens initiative on the ballot this year. Referendum sponsors have a different deadline, later this month, to get their measures on the ballot.
