A Seattle Fire Department hazardous-materials team is cleaning up muriatic acid that leaks from a tank at Pacific Science Center.

An employee noticed a spill of the highly corrosive acid around 8:45 this morning and the Fire Department was summoned, according to Pacific Science Center spokesman Stan Orchard. The muriatic acid is used to clear algae from ponds at the center.

The acid apparently leaked from a holding tank. No injuries were reported.

Orchard said the center is expected to open on time at 10 a.m.
