Skatepark passes slick test
ALAN BERNER / THE SEATTLE TIMES
Skateboarder Justin Gollmer was brought in Tuesday to test the new "glass wall" feature of Seattle Center Skatepark to see if it needed sandblasting for greater grip. At first he found it slippery but decided "it just takes some getting used to," adding that it "looks awesome, really fun." The park, funded through sale of Seattle Center property to the Gates Foundation ($2.1 million) and other capital funds ($800,000), opens Saturday, July 11, at 11:15 a.m. The skatepark's digitally laminated architectural glass panels bear the imagery of used skateboards.
