Hanford nuclear plant back on line

The only nuclear plant in the Northwest has been reduced to half-power so workers can fix a leaky pipe in the condenser system.

RICHLAND, Wash. —

The only nuclear plant in the Northwest has been reduced to half-power so workers can fix a leaky pipe in the condenser system.

The Tri-City Herald reports the entire condenser system at the Columbia Generating Station will be replaced in two years at the Hanford plant's next refueling outage.

The plant had powered up June 24 after a month-long outage for refueling and maintenance.

The 25-year-old plant produces enough electricity for one million homes. It's distributed through the Bonneville Power Administration.
