Seattle power pole snapped scrambling morning commute

A garbage truck snagged some power lines in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood, snapping a power pole and forcing authorities to shut down Aurora Avenue North just as the Monday morning commute got underway.

Authorities closed Aurora Avenue North between North 83rd and North 85th Street shortly after 5 a.m., diverting rush-hour traffic while Seattle City Light crews worked to repair the broken pole, Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel said.

As of 7 a.m., the street remain closed, and would remain so until the crew was able to fix the problem, police said.

City Light spokesman Peter Clark said replacing the pole would take until at least 3 p.m. this afternoon to complete.
