Man struck, killed by BSSF train in WA

The Seattle Police Department says a man in his early 20s is dead after being hit by a train at Carkeek Park.

SEATTLE —

The Seattle Police Department says a man in his early 20s is dead after being hit by a train at Carkeek Park.

Police detective Jeff Kappel says the accident occurred Saturday night near a pedestrian walkway at the park.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas says the train was a BNSF freight train that had just left Seattle bound for Chicago. Melonas says there was a report that a number of individuals were on the track when the train sounded its horn and all but one of the individuals scattered. The individual who remained on the track was killed.
