Mayors to go to White House

Providence, R.I.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors plans to accept a White House invitation to meet later this summer.

But the group's new president, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, said Monday it won't be able to make the administration's proposed date of June 29.

He says the mayors want to develop a substantive agenda that reflects their national meeting in Providence over the past few days.

Among the topics on the mayors' meeting agenda were federal stimulus aid, gun control and the 2010 census.
