Man shot by WA police, police dog stabbed

A Tukwila, Wash., police spokesman says a man who stabbed a police K-9 dog has been shot and wounded by a Tukwila officer during an altercation near a supermarket in the south Seattle suburb.

TUKWILA, Wash. —

A Tukwila, Wash., police spokesman says a man who stabbed a police K-9 dog has been shot and wounded by a Tukwila officer during an altercation near a supermarket in the south Seattle suburb.

Spokesman Mike Murphy said the injured man was taken to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center after the 8 p.m. shooting Monday. The spokesman says the man had been threatening officers who were trying to detain him. Murphy said he doesn't know the man's condition or how many times he was shot.

Tukwila Trading Co. employees who had been trying to detain a man had called police for assistance. Murphy says the shooting occurred in the parking lot of a nearby housing complex.

Murphy says the police dog's injury appears serious.
