Has the city got a compost-bin deal for you ...
Seattle Public Utilities is selling the bins for $25 a pop at the Seattle Conservation Corps office at Sand Point/Magnuson Park. Learn to use them at a Seattle Tilth Demonstration Garden in Wallingford from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
A volunteer from Seattle Tilth will be there to demonstrate how to make compost from yard and food waste, how to assemble a bin and how to tell when compost is ready to use.
The demonstration garden is at 4649 Sunnyside Ave. N., just off 50th Avenue North.
The city, which is selling the bins until the end of September, says there's a 19 percent increase this year in the number of households planning to grow their own produce and composting at home is a natural way to provide nutrients to fruits and vegetables.
