Witness: Everett police shooting was unnecessary
A witness who was close enough to be splattered with blood says a police officer overreacted in shooting and killing a suspected drunk driver.
A witness who was close enough to be splattered with blood says a police officer overreacted in shooting and killing a suspected drunk driver.
The witness, Elizabeth Thornes, had been knocked down when the man's white Corvette hit a fence Wednesday night outside a restaurant, the Chuckwagon Inn.
She says the man refused orders to get out of his car, and that the car lurched forward and hit the fence after police fired a Taser at him. But she says he was boxed in by police cruisers, and there was nowhere for him to go.
She told Seattle's KING-TV, "That gentleman died senselessly."
A 41-year-old officer, an 11-year veteran of the Everett department, is on administrative leave. Snohomish County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rebecca Hover (HOH'-ver) everything happened quickly and the shooting is under investigation.
