A fire that may have been caused by a ruptured propane tank from a barbecue grill severely damaged an Eastgate home Wednesday morning and destroyed a car and a carport next to the house, Bellevue Fire officials said.
No one was hurt in the fire, officials said. A family of three that lived in the rental home in the 14800 block of Southeast 46th Street managed to escape the residence after the blaze erupted about 4:30 a.m. The family's cat remains missing, officials said.
Initial calls to 911 indicated an explosion occurred with the fire, and firefighters found a ruptured propane bottle from a barbecue grill among the fire debris, officials said.
Fire investigators will seek to determine whether the propane tank ruptured before or after the fire. Officials have not yet estimated costs of the fire, but said damage was "extensive."
