Tacoma offers Russell Investments parking perks

Sixteen Pierce County officials have sent a letter to Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels telling him to back off attempts to lure the Russell Investments headquarters from Tacoma.

TACOMA, Wash. —

Sixteen Pierce County officials have sent a letter to Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels telling him to back off attempts to lure the Russell Investments headquarters from Tacoma.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reports Tuesday's letter calls Seattle's tax incentive offer "misguided" and "cannibalistic."

Tacoma is offering its own incentives, worth more than $148 million, to keep the company and its 900 workers as the downtown anchor.

Russell started in 1936 and grew into a global leader in managing pension funds. It's now owned by Milwaukee's Northwestern Mutual Life, which is expected to make a decision on the headquarters move by the end of September.
