Middle school space to be needed in Seattle

Seattle Times staff

Seattle Public Schools says it will need more middle-school seats in the northern part of the city in the next few years.

But officials deny rumors that they have decided to establish a middle school at the Jane Addams building within a few years of opening a new K-8 school there.

The district says it hasn't made any decisions about how to expand middle-school space.

At the same time, however, teachers assigned to teach at Jane Addams K-8 in September were told they could seek other jobs at a district job fair Thursday "due to possible program changes."

The School Board voted late last year to open a new school at the Jane Addams building that would enroll students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Summit K-12, the alternative school now on the site, will close next month.
