Seattle

Judith A. Moore, executive director of Boyer Children's Clinic in Seattle's Montlake neighborhood, suffered critical head injuries in a bicycling accident early Sunday afternoon in Port Ludlow and died Tuesday in Harborview Medical Center.

She was test riding a battery-assisted bicycle in a residential area south of Port Ludlow when the bike went down and she struck her head, said her longtime partner, Randall Sherwood, of Redmond. She was not wearing a helmet.

"It was a freak accident that should never have happened," he said. "She was behind me. I just heard the crash. She went over the handle bars and landed on her head."

Sherwood said Moore, 62, was immediately airlifted to Harborview.

The King County Medical Examiner's Office classified the death as accidental.

Sherwood and Moore, a member of the Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club, had been in Port Ludlow for a club-sponsored holiday weekend event, he said.

Boyer clinic administrators said Moore, who had a master's degree in counseling psychology, had been with the clinic since 1977.
