Wash. holiday traffic periodically slow

Holiday traffic was tedious at times for Memorial Day weekend travelers returning home on Washington highways.

SEATTLE —

Holiday traffic was tedious at times for Memorial Day weekend travelers returning home on Washington highways.

The state Department of Transportation says westbound Interstate 90 traffic from the Ellensburg area to Easton was periodically slow on Monday.

Travelers on southbound U.S. 101 between Hoodsport and Lilliwaup on the Olympic Peninsula found themselves in backups as long as nine miles during part of Monday but that crush eased by Monday evening. The closure of the Hood Canal Bridge for renovation contributed to that backup.
