Rainey drops out of Seattle mayor's race
Activist Dorli Rainey has withdrawn from the Seattle mayor's race, according to an e-mail she sent out this morning.

Activist Dorli Rainey has withdrawn from the Seattle mayor's race, according to an e-mail she sent out this morning.
Rainey, 82, said she was waiting for a bus home from a late meeting earlier this week when her age caught up to her, she wrote, and she realized: "I am old and should learn to be old, stay home, watch TV and sit still."
Rainey, a former schoolteacher, has been active in local transportation issues since the 1960s. She hasn't run for office since the 1970s, when, she said, she came within a few hundred votes of winning a seat on the King County Council. She also served as a school board member in Issaquah in the 1970s.
In her e-mail to supporters, Rainey wrote: "I am asking you to forgive me when I tell you that I have decided not to run for Mayor of Seattle. I might even learn to shut up."
