Wolves may have killed cow near Twisp

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is trying to determine whether wolves killed a cow found dead near Twisp.

TWISP, Wash. —

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is trying to determine whether wolves killed a cow found dead near Twisp.

The Wenatchee World reports it would be the first known livestock killing by wolves in Washington in more than 70 years.

Fish and Wildlife spokesman Tom Buckley said Thursday that agents aren't sure if the cow was killed by wolves or scavenged by wolves after it died for some other reason.

If it can be confirmed that wolves killed the cow, the Defenders of Wildlife conservation group may compensate the owner.
