Seattle considers ice-skating rink

Seattle's Department of Parks and Recreation is testing the waters for an ice-skating rink next winter at Occidental Square Park in Pioneer Square.

Seattle's Department of Parks and Recreation is testing the waters for an ice-skating rink next winter at Occidental Square Park in Pioneer Square.

Parks officials speculate a public rink would be good for residents and tourists alike, particularly around the holidays. "We think there's a market for it," said Parks spokeswoman Dewey Potter.

But an operator is needed. The city has an RFP — a request for proposal — circulating that outlines what the city has in mind, and what it's looking for in the way of an operator to install and manage the rink.

The RFP is online at www.seattle.gov/parks/partnerships/rfp.htm.
