The adolescent black bear first spotted late Saturday night in Magnolia had managed to make his way to Hamlin Park in Shoreline by Tuesday morning, but wildlife agents later called off the search.

The bear has been dubbed "Urban Phantom."

In the middle of the night, wildlife agents, a bear-scenting dog and Seattle police were chasing the bear.

State Department of Fish and Wildlife Sgt. Kim Chandler said he hoped the bear would keep heading north then east to the Cascades, "where bears belong."
