UW targets six recruits on ESPN's list NEW - 5/24, 11:28 AM

A former UW athlete and NFL draft pick pleaded guilty today to two separate DUI incidents from last fall. Prosecutors are seeking an 18-month jail sentence.

Reggie Rogers, 45, refused to submit to breath-alcohol tests after police stopped him on Oct. 17 on Interstate 5 near Westfield Southcenter, and on Nov. 26, according to a plea agreement. The second incident, also on I-5 near Tukwila, resulted in Rogers' arrest because he fled the scene after hitting another car. Nobody was seriously hurt in either incident.

Had the cases gone to trial, Rogers could have faced up to three years in prison, said Dan Donohoe, spokesman for King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg. Rogers is scheduled to be sentenced on June 18.

More than 20 years ago, Rogers wound up in prison after being found guilty of negligent homicide. In that case, three teenagers were killed when Rogers ran a stop sign and collided with their car in October 1988.

Rogers, who had been the Detroit Lions' first-round pick, was dropped by the team when he went to prison. After a year behind bars, the Buffalo Bills picked him up but then dropped him after playing him in only two games.

Since the end of this football career, Rogers has been arrested for a string of DUIs, assault and other criminal traffic violations.
