King County Council votes to add 2 years to building permits

Builders whose projects have been stalled by the housing crisis will get an extra two years to use their permits.

The Metropolitan King County Council voted Monday to extend plat approvals from five to seven years, and to allow a third extension for building permits in cases where substantial work hasn't been done. The plat extension applies to projects that received preliminary approval since Jan. 1, 2004.

"These extensions will allow builders to get their work started without delay once the economy starts to recover," prime sponsor Reagan Dunn of Maple Valley said in a written statement.
