WSU approves 14 percent tuition hike

Washington State University undergraduate students will see a 14 percent tuition hike in each of the next two academic years.

Seattle Times staff reporter

Washington State University undergraduate students will see a 14 percent tuition hike in each of the next two academic years.

The school's Board of Regents approved the increase Friday, the maximum increase allowed under the new state budget, during a meeting at the WSU Spokane campus.

An average year of full-time tuition at WSU would cost about $7,089 during the 2009-2010 school year, and $8,081 the following year. That's a compound increase of 30 percent over two years.

Graduate students will pay 5 percent more for tuition.

The University of Washington is expected to approve a similar tuition increase.

On Thursday, the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges voted unanimously in favor of a 7 percent tuition increase. The state has 34 community and technical colleges.
