Animal cruelty charges filed in puppy mill case

Half a dozen felony charges have been filed against a Gold Bar-area couple in a puppy mill case.

EVERETT, Wash. —

Half a dozen felony charges have been filed against a Gold Bar-area couple in a puppy mill case.

The animal cruelty charges were filed Thursday in Everett against Jason and Serenna Larsen, both 37.

The case stems from a raid on Jan. 16 in which authorities say they seized about 160 dogs, many of them covered in urine and feces. Dead puppies were found in a freezer and a mummified husk of a dog was discovered in an outbuilding.

The investigation led to another raid in which 450 dogs were seized from a kennel outside Mount Vernon.

Jason Larsen has denied owning the dogs and says he was told by the owner, Renee Roske, that he was operating legally. Roske's kennel in Snohomish, Wags 'n' Wiggles, also is under investigation.
