Sims confirmed for post in Obama administration

King County Executive Ron Sims was confirmed Wednesday by the U.S. Senate to become deputy secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

King County Executive Ron Sims was confirmed Wednesday by the U.S. Senate to become deputy secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Sims' resignation as county executive is expected to come quickly. Sims has designated Executive Chief of Staff Kurt Triplett to hold the job until the Metropolitan King County Council chooses an interim replacement to serve until after a new county executive is elected in November.

Triplett, former Seattle Mayor Charles Royer and former County Councilmembers Louise Miller and Steve Hammond are candidates for that interim post.

County Council Chairman Dow Constantine said he's asked the blue-ribbon committee that will interview candidates for interim county executive to convene at 6:30 p.m. May 13 at the Chinook Building in downtown Seattle.
