Wash. lawmakers going to special session

If there's a special session of the Legislature to help schools, Gov. Chris Gregoire wants it before mid-May when districts have to send teachers layoff notices.
One of the bills left hanging when lawmakers adjourned last month would let school districts collect more money from levies.
The Olympian reports that lifting the limits on levies would produce $67 million statewide for 75 mostly larger school districts. But another part of the bill would cut $60 million in levy equalization money that mostly goes to smaller districts.
Two other bills would help state prisons save money. They would allow immediate deportation of illegal immigrants convicted of crimes, and reduce minimum sentences for certain drug offenses.
