Olympia rethinks City Hall bronze 'bubble' art

The Olympia City Council voted to cancel an art installation at the new City Hall because of public complaints about the design.

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

The Olympia City Council voted to cancel an art installation at the new City Hall because of public complaints about the design.

Seattle artist Dan Webb said the bronze bubbles - like bubbles in comic strips - would represent the voice of the people. One critic said they looked like tadpoles attacking City Hall.

The Olympian reports that as a result of Tuesday's vote the city will start over on the $180,000 art project.

Construction of a new $36 million City Hall is scheduled to begin later this year. Olympia requires that a portion of the construction budget go for public art.
