The U.S. Forest Service has announced funding for $157 million in Washington and Oregon projects that will work to reduce fire risks, improve forest health, maintain roads and improve watersheds.

The money will fund 71 projects. The projects are scheduled to be put out to bid to private contractors, and employ hundreds of workers for varying lengths of time.

The money announced Friday is in addition to $17 million in projects announced earlier. More projects are expected to be announced later this spring.

The money is part of the broader stimulus funding included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act approved earlier this year by Congress.
