Washington wildfire season starting
It may not seem possible in soggy or snow-covered parts of Washington but the state Department of Natural Resources says the wildfire season begins today.

Summer fire rules are in effect from April 15 through Oct. 15 on the nearly 20,000 square miles (12.7 million acres) of private and state forest land protected by the DNR. The rules require the use of fire-prevention equipment by people working in the woods.
Last year fires burned about 119 square miles in Washington.
