Boy, girl struck, killed by Amtrak train in Cowlitz County

A young boy and a young girl who were on foot were struck and killed by a northbound Amtrak train this evening night near Woodland, Cowlitz County.

WOODLAND, Cowlitz County — A young boy and a young girl who were on foot were struck and killed by a northbound Amtrak train this evening night near Woodland.

BNSF Railway spokesman Gus Melonas says the accident occurred at about 7 p.m. He says the victims were preteens or in their teens.

Melonas says the accident was not at a crossing, but there are two crossings nearby.

He says the double main line between Portland and Seattle has been closed while the Woodland Police Department conducts an investigation. The lines are owned by BNSF.

According to Melonas, about 50 trains use the lines daily.
