Beware of canisters on Washington beaches

The state Ecology Department says people cleaning up Washington coastal beaches on Saturday should watch out for silver canisters that could have poisonous contents.

OLYMPIA — The state Ecology Department says people cleaning up Washington coastal beaches on Saturday should watch out for silver canisters that could have poisonous contents.

Some of these 1 liter containers were found last year along the Northwest coast. They carried a pesticide used on cargo ships and were apparently thrown overboard.

Removing the plastic lid could release a toxic gas. Empty canisters without lids can be recycled.
