Tax day demonstrations planned across Washington

Rallies are planned across Washington Wednesday as part of the national Tax Day Tea Party to protest taxes and government spending.

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

Rallies are planned across Washington Wednesday as part of the national Tax Day Tea Party to protest taxes and government spending.

The largest rally is planned on the Capitol steps in Olympia where lawmakers are talking about budget cuts or possible tax increases to deal with a $9 billion gap between projected spending in the next two years and expected revenue.

One Tea Party sponsor is the Evergreen Freedom Foundation in Olympia. The foundation's Amber Gunn told The Olympian the state is expected to take in as much money in the next budget as in the current budget, so the $9 billion gap is debatable.
