Rain cancels 520 work

A repaving project on Highway 520 this weekend has been canceled because of expected rain, so all four lanes just east of Interstate 405 in Bellevue will remain open.

A repaving project on Highway 520 this weekend has been canceled because of expected rain, so all four lanes just east of Interstate 405 in Bellevue will remain open.

The half-mile project called for new lane stripes to be painted on Sunday afternoon, but that's when downpours are expected to be especially heavy, which would disrupt the job, said Aurora Jones, spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.

The work will be rescheduled within the next few weeks.

Another road repair — to I-5 in Seattle — will still be done, requiring a shutdown of the express lanes from late Friday to early Monday.
