Crane burns at Harbor Island

A crane fire over Harbor Island sent black smoke in the air this afternoon, but caused no damage — because the crane was being demolished.

A crane fire over Harbor Island sent black smoke into the air this afternoon, but it caused no damage because the crane was already being demolished.

Sparks from a welding torch caused the blaze, about 150 feet up, when the sparks dropped onto a crane operator's cab at Terminal 18, the Seattle Fire Department said. Firefighters used a ladder truck and 500 feet of hose to douse the flames.
