Volcanic ash from an erupting Mount Redoubt in Alaska has forced the cancellation of Alaska Airlines flights to and from the following cities: Fairbanks, Bethel, Prudhoe Bay, Nome, Kotzebue and Barrow.
Alaska Airlines is still flying to cities south of Anchorage and across Southwest Alaska, though the airline will continue to evaluate those routes as the situation changes.
The airline expects to resume flights throughout Alaska on Tuesday if conditions permit it. Up-to-date flight information will be posted at alaskaair.com or by calling 1-800-ALASKAAIR.
"We are closely monitoring the weather and ash from Mount Redoubt to assess our ability to safely operate flights in and out of Alaska, and we will adjust flights as conditions, change," said spokeswoman Bobbie Egan in a news release.
The airline says passengers who were booked on a canceled flight may rebook before March 30 without incurring a penalty. They may also apply for a full refund for the unused part of their ticket.
