Seattle woman dies when tree falls on van

A 46-year-old Seattle woman was killed this afternoon when a tree was uprooted in a flash storm and fell on her van near Monroe. The woman's name was not released.

A 46-year-old Seattle woman was killed Friday afternoon when a tree was uprooted in a flash storm and fell on her van near 260th Avenue Southeast and Ben Howard Road near Monroe, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said. The woman's name was not released.

A passenger in the van, a 51-year-old Seattle man, was injured and taken to Valley General Hospital in Monroe. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The Sheriff's Office said the mishap occurred about 3:45 p.m. A brief but powerful storm with strong winds whipped through the area about the same time as the accident. The van was traveling along two-lane 260th Avenue Southeast, about 100 yards from Ben Howard Road, when three trees were uprooted. One fell on the van.
