Feds join Oregon lawsuit against LNG location

Oregon Attorney General John Kroger says the U.S. Department or Justice has joined Oregon in appealing the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's approval of the proposed Bradwood Landing liquefied natural gas terminal on the Columbia River in Clatsop County.

SALEM, Ore. —

Oregon Attorney General John Kroger says the U.S. Department or Justice has joined Oregon in appealing the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's approval of the proposed Bradwood Landing liquefied natural gas terminal on the Columbia River in Clatsop County.

Oregon appealed FERC's approval of the conditional license in January, saying it allowed construction to begin about 20 miles upriver from Astoria without regard to impact on water quality and coastal species.

Oregon contends federal law requires that those impacts be considered. The State of Washington and environmental groups have joined Oregon's lawsuit.

The U.S. Justice Department is representing the National Marine Fisheries Service.
