Sounders debut likely to tie up Seattle traffic Thursday afternoon

Expect traffic to be challenging in downtown Seattle Thursday afternoon as fans flock to Pioneer Square and Qwest Field for the debut of the Seattle Sounders soccer club.

Seattle Times staff

Thursday afternoon's commute through downtown Seattle may be more congested than usual because the new Seattle Sounders soccer club makes its debut at Qwest Field. More than 34,000 fans are expected in the Pioneer Square area for pregame festivities starting about 4:30 p.m., and at the stadium for the 6 p.m. match.

Expect traffic congestion around the stadium before and after the match. Some bus service through the downtown area is likely to run a bit behind schedule.
