Tarboro-based boat builder to expand operations

A national manufacturer of twin-hull boats plans to expand its North Carolina operations by investing nearly $2.7 million and creating 120 jobs.

RALEIGH, N.C. —

A national manufacturer of twin-hull boats plans to expand its North Carolina operations by investing nearly $2.7 million and creating 120 jobs.

A statement from Gov. Beverly Perdue's office Tuesday said HC Composites plans to create the jobs over the next three years at its headquarters in Tarboro, where it currently employs 60 people.

HC Composites does business as World Cat and manufactures a variety of catamaran fishing boats in Tarboro. The company is purchasing Glacier Bay Catamarans of Seattle, which makes twin-hull cruising boats. HC Composites plans to consolidate operations by relocating the Glacier Bay facility to Tarboro.

The company received a $130,000 state grant from the One North Carolina Fund to help support the project.
