Cameras installed in Issaquah to watch traffic

The city of Issaquah is installing cameras to monitor the speed of vehicles along Second Avenue Southeast, which is close to four schools, including Issaquah High School.

The cameras — which will operate 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on school days — will monitor both directions of traffic. Only vehicles that exceed the school zone's speed limit of 20 mph will be photographed and videotaped.

Before notice of infractions are mailed to the registered owners of speeding vehicles, the Issaquah Police Department will review and confirm each violation.

Starting the week of March 16, the city will begin to issue warnings only. After April 13, violators will start to receive fines of $124.

The infraction is a noncriminal offense that, like a parking ticket, is not part of the violator's driving record.
