I-90 reopened across Snoqualmie Pass

The Transportation Department has reopened Snoqualmie Pass in both directions. Interstate 90 over the pass was closed for a while this afternoon because of heavy snow and accidents.

Interstate 90 across Snoqualmie Pass is open again after being closed in both directions much of the early afternoon because of heavy snowfall, poor visibility, numerous spinouts and collisions, state Department of Transportation spokeswoman Summer Derrey said.

More than a dozen snow plows were busy throughout the afternoon clearing snow and de-icing, she said.

The National Weather Service in Seattle issued a winter-storm warning for the western slopes of the central Cascades just before 11 a.m. today. The warning is in effect until 6 p.m.

Snoqualmie Pass, which was closed at 12:14 p.m., was reopened for eastbound traffic at 1:30 p.m., and westbound at 3 p.m.

Eastbound traffic was stopped at milepost 33, just east of North Bend; westbound traffic was stopped at milepost 71 near Easton.

Both directions of Highway 18 near the Tiger Mountain Summit near Issaquah were blocked for about two hours, from late morning to early afternoon, because of multiple spinouts.

The Weather Service said snow is expected to turn to showers tonight, with the forecast calling for more mountain snow Friday night into Saturday.
