Bellevue Philharmonic cancels spring Masterworks concert

The Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra is canceling its spring Masterworks concert, saying it would cost more to produce than contributions and ticket sales would cover.

The Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra is canceling its spring Masterworks concert, saying it would cost more to produce than contributions and ticket sales would cover.

Ticket holders for the scheduled April 18 and 19 concerts at Meydenbauer Center will be given several options including attending other, smaller, concerts.

Like other arts organizations, the Philharmonic has been hard-hit by the slumping economy. Subscription ticket sales have been stable, but corporate and individual contributions are down.

The Masterworks concerts are among the Philharmonic's largest, costing from $25,000 to $40,000 to produce. The orchestra relies on donations for much of that cost.

The Philharmonic has also suspended its series of concerts for schoolkids.
