A 42-year-old Seattle woman who was critically injured in a head-on collision on the Fremont Bridge Wednesday morning later died of her injuries.
The woman was identified as Christine Duffy by the King County Medical Examiner's Office, but death investigators are still trying to determine her cause of death.
Duffy suffered life-threatening injuries in the 10:54 a.m. collision, a Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman said Wednesday. Medics performed CPR as they transported her to Harborview Medical Center. She died in the emergency room, a hospital spokeswoman said.
According to Seattle police, Duffy was driving north over the Fremont Bridge when she crossed the double yellow line, clipped a mini van and then collided head-on with a cargo van. The other drivers, a 49-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and were treated at local hospitals.
The Fremont Bridge was closed for several hours while the accident was investigated.
A caller who identified herself as a friend of Duffy's said her friend may have suffered a seizure or some other medical emergency that may have caused her to lose control of her vehicle.
The friend said the woman was a stay-at-home mom to twin 5-year-old boys and lived in Ballard with her husband and sons.
