The Fremont Bridge has reopened after being closed for several hours following a head-on crash that sent three people to the hospital. A 40-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Medics performed CPR on the woman as they transported her to Harborview Medical Center, said Dana Vander Houwen, a spokeswoman for the Seattle Fire Department. Two other people, a 49-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and were taken to different hospitals, she said.

A witness called 911 at 10:54 a.m. to report a head-on collision between a van and a sport-utility vehicle in the midspan of the bridge, said Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel.

Kappel, who cautioned that the report was preliminary and officers hadn't yet confirmed the information, couldn't provide any details of the crash.

Traffic collision investigators have been called to the scene.
