Washington lawmakers face Wednesday bill deadline

Bills that fail to make it out of committee by a 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline will die in the Washington Legislature.

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

Bills that fail to make it out of committee by a 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline will die in the Washington Legislature.

Lawmakers will focus on remaining policy, spending and transportation bills. March 12 is their deadline to move out of the chamber of origin.

The session that began Jan. 12 is scheduled to adjourn April 26.

The Olympian reports a bill to give homeowners more rights in dealing with defective house construction passed a state Senate committee Monday and a similar home warranty bill is moving through the House.

Lawmakers are still considering proposals to track middle manager pay. State government has 4,600 middle-management jobs that pay about $73,000 a year compared with $47,000 for rank-and-file union employees.
