Federal jobless benefits extended

Because of rising unemployment in the state, Washington has qualified for extended federal jobless benefits.

Because of rising unemployment in the state, Washington has qualified for extended federal jobless benefits.

The program could pay up to 13 additional weeks of benefits, depending on the state's unemployment rate over the next few months. To be eligible, workers must have first used up their regular and emergency unemployment benefits.

The state will send applications to those who may be eligible starting Feb. 22. If you think you might be eligible, do not call the state's unemployment call centers, rather wait for an application packet in the mail, Employment Security officials ask.
