ASHLAND, Ore. — Oregon State Police say officers have shot and killed a cougar in downtown Ashland because of public safety concerns.
On Saturday morning, state police say, troopers from the fish and wildlife division were called to help Ashland Police remove the cougar.
According to state police, the cougar weighed 76 pounds, and it was about 20 feet up a tree next to a mobile home park and near businesses and other homes. The area was cordoned off and a few nearby homes evacuated before the cougar was shot.
The dead cougar has been taken to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for further examination.
