Woman hurt after truck spills load

Seattle Times staff and news services

SEATTLE —

A dump truck hauling an unsecured load of pea gravel lost part of its load just after noon Thursday in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 in downtown Seattle, causing a 36-year-old Bellingham woman to be injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The State Patrol said the truck lost part of its load as it passed under the Washington State Convention & Trade Center about 12:35 p.m. Gravel shattered the right front passenger window of a pickup in which the woman was a passenger. Investigating troopers said glass was lodged in the woman's right eye. The pickup's driver was not injured.

Two northbound freeway lanes under the convention center were closed for about 20 minutes to clear the roadway of loose debris.
